Your First Visit to Our Herndon Practice
As a new patient on your first visit you can expect to be personally and warmly greeted by our friendly front desk staff. You will fill out some brief forms and then be taken back to a comfortable and well-appointed exam room. The doctor will come in to greet you and take your health history immediately. We pride our office on being ontime and respect our patient's time. You will feel relaxed when you meet the doctor because he is kind and friendly. We recommend that you be prepared to discuss not only your main complaint but any other health challenges you are concerned about. The more the doctor knows, the better he can help you. You should probably allow about an hour for your first visit.
The doctor will take a thorough health history, focusing upon your primary complaint and also other symptoms. Depending upon your condition, the doctor will recommend the type of examinations you will need and go over their costs or your insurance co-payment. You may need to be gowned for the examination. If you wear exercise clothes or a dress without zippers, belts or buttons, you may not need a gown. That is an option for you to consider. Definitely wear underclothing.
The exam is completely non-invasive and gentle. Orthopedic, neurologic and specialized chiropractic tests will be run to get to the cause of your problem. The doctor will check your range of motion and palpate or feel your spine to determine misalignments. Acupuncture meridians will be evaluated using Applied Kinesiology or Electro Meridian Imaging, an instrument that measures your chi. X-rays may be taken in our clinic if required. Laboratory tests may be ordered. A referral for specialized medical tests like MRI or a referral to a medical specialist may be given if the doctor finds it necessary.
Once your examination is completed, the doctor will give you a preliminary report of his findings. He will explain the next visit to you, where he will go over your findings in more detail. If your condition warrants, the doctor may elect to treat you on your first visit. Don't expect a miracle though. It usually takes time to get you better.
Finally, you will go back up to the front desk for checkout where the receptionist will schedule your next appointment and deal with any insurance co-payment. You will be given an appointment as close to your exam day as possible, often, the next day.
